Proposal:
- A local painting contractor called us to replace an acoustic tile product in a specification.
- They need a system to space them out evenly and quickly, as these shapes were not simple geometric primitives.
- The tile needed to have a top layer of real 3mm felt, adhered to 12mm.
Challenges:
- We were unsure how the real felt would stick to the substrate.
- We need to manufacture a template for the installers to use to install the wall tiles to the wall, consistently.
Solution:
- After some testing we found that when we used the P107 adhesive on both the top 3 mm layer and 12mm substrate, the 2 layers were impossible to separate.
- We then cut out the wall tile shapes with the 2 layers of felt adhered.
- We manufactured a simple spacing tool out of felt, for the felt tiles, much like a tile contractor using spacing plugs between ceramic tiles.
